Dispair. Love. Hope. Pain. We are all survivors of what we call “life.” Some of us fear life while others take life by the hand and seize whatever joy and pain life has to offer.
We are all reckless with our emotions; we love the wrong people, we hate, and we fail to love the right people in the way that they need to be loved.
I have but one goal with this book, “tenfortyseventy,” and that is to tell the truth. This is a book of feelings and it certainly won’t be my last. I’ve enjoyed writing this book and I truly hope that when you’ve read these poems, the prose and short stories, you’ll understand. This is a book about us, the working-starving, the parents, the children, the hopeful and misguided. The lonely.
Those of you who know me personally or have read my books know that I possess a strong sense of passion. When I write I try to choose the appropriate words, when I love I love intensely and when I get angry my anger is often unruly. I’m a believer that those who recognize that you cannot have joy without suffering have more fruitful lives, love stronger, live longer.
Hopefully, you will laugh, perhaps shed a tear while you read this book. I open my heart to you so that you may recognize your own pain, to laugh off the stupid shit and to appreciate what you’ve been given, no matter how little, no matter how large.
I don’t preach, I observe.
Finally, one of my oldest friends, Spider, has written the foreword. We’ve known each other since high school and I have a deep respect for him. He founded the band
Powerman 5000 and went on to be a husband, father, friend and platinum- selling recording artist.
